Our Annual Bowls and dinner nights have been held in November at the Sandringham Bowls Club
We have a specially arranged bowls competition that is far from serious and great fun. The teams are mixed up so they are balanced with at least someone who knows the game!
As with most Probus events, the real fun is the social occasion. The Sandringham Bowls Club ladies turn on a fabulous and very reasonably priced meal and drinks are at club prices.
It was good to be back again after the Covid break! Thanks to Stan Bernhard for organising the competition. A record of 38 came to the event which featured the competition followed by a hearty meal put on by the ladies of the Sandy Bowls Club. The meal comprised fried chicken and salad followed by wonderful desserts of pavlova and cheese cake.
The winner this year was team Amond which included Barry Amond, John Smyth, Louise and John Pound and Ian Marchment
Thanks to Stan Bernhard, Ron Hunter and John Ragas for organising the bowls competition. Unfortunately, this year we didn’t have a winner as it was rained off but frankly, nobody minded as it was such a great evening.
Barbara Appel proved to be the outstanding bowls player of the evening and prizes were also awarded to Louise Pound and Geoff Carlson for their very promising performances. Thanks Ken Beadle.
24 intrepid players lined up in 8 teams of three, the competition of winners and losers was on.
Those players who were able to remember their skills from last year put them to the test on a very warm night.
The winning team of Don Lobb, John O’Connor and Stan Bernhard had to play off for the trophies.
Don Played John for the “Grand Final” and Don, with a magnificent first bowl, playing it to within inches of the jack could not be beaten.
Congratulations Don Lobb, our 2017 Champion, and John O’Connor, runner up.
The best team of losers were Lloyd Jenkins, John green and John Ragas who were able to bring home this title.
President Ken presented the trophies and thanked the organisers, Stan Bernhard, Ted Montfort, The Sandringham Bowls Club Members who assisted on the Green, all our participants and the ladies who provided another magnificent dinner lead by Cathy Spencer and assisted in the bar by Joan Harwood
