A Brief profile of Paul Myers

Paul and Rosemary Myers at Birdsville Races

Paul was born, bred, educated and lived in Christchurch, NZ, where he met and married my wife, Rosemary. Paul says, they are a team.

Educated at Christchurch Boys High School then University of Canterbury where he completed an Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree.

His first job was at job at Telecom NZ in Wellington, where they lived for the next 20 years. After 5 years of training and an examination, he graduated as a Registered Professional Engineer.

Over the next 20 years two children Philip and Deborah were born and Paul’s career developed. He spent nearly 4 years in PWC, reaching Associate Director level and leaving to establish his own business in Wellington and later Auckland.

The business specialised in Project and Change Management and ran projects in the Telco, IT, Electricity, Banking, and Defence Industries.

Rosemary left secondary school teaching after 20 years and completed a certificate at the Inchbald School of Design in London. Not satisfied, she completed a 4-year diploma at Rhodec International School of Design, also in London. These skills were pivotal to successfully altering and renovating the houses we purchased.

Opportunities arose with one of Paul’s clients to work on the Southern Cross undersea cable project. This project took him to Bermuda and Singapore, reporting to the Board on its operational readiness.

Fortuitously, he met the Telecom NZ Australia Team in Sydney that had just won the CommBank IT&T Outsource deal and was offered the job of Project Director Transformation. As a result, the family moved to Sydney in early 2001 and became citizens 2 years later. They celebrate every year on Australia Day. Rosemary managed the back office of the business in Australia. Client projects were undertaken in the Telco, rail, electricity, health, and construction industries. After Sydney, they opened an office in Melbourne and worked in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Paul retired after completing the new Royal Adelaide Hospital project.

The third age began in Adelaide, where he was invited to be a guest speaker to Masters Students at Torrens University and subsequently asked to do a master’s by research. After a year, was invited to articulate to the PhD programme via an examination process. After 8 years in Adelaide, they moved to Melbourne near their daughter and have bought a house in Brighton East. Needless to say, it is undergoing renovation.

Aside from working on his PhD part-time, he has interests in food, wine, Rugby, bicycling, the cosmos, military, defence and general discussions about the meaning of life. To cap it off, Paul voluntarily supports the International Centre for Complex Project Management (ICCPM), helping to facilitate workshops and participating in their special interest groups.

He remains a Naval, Military and Air Force Club member in SA, having served on their membership and marketing committee for over three years.

Paul’s two older brothers also live in Australia. Their forefather came to Australia from Albany, NY, USA, in the mid-1800s on whaling ships and previously to the USA from Prussia in the mid-1700s. He is buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery, and his brother is in Amhurst Cemetery near Talbot. One of his mother’s ancestors is buried in the Brighton General Cemetery.
