A brief profile of David Rushworth
I was born in our wonderful city a fair number of years ago and grew up in South Caulfield, attending Caulfield Grammar School.
After leaving school I worked in the country with a Stock & Station Agent and commenced Accountancy studies. On returning to Melbourne, I joined the shipping industry as Assistant Accountant with a company called Seabridge Australia. Ltd just as the container revolution was taking place and the old conventional shipping was being phased out.
After several years I was approached (with 3 others) to form a new container shipping agency called Orient Shipping Services. This was an exciting time for us, as newcomers we had to take on the old established agencies, this we did so successfully that in 1994 we were taken over by a large French based organisation and I found myself looking for another position, I then joined Mentone Grammar School as Accountant/Business manager and enjoyed my 12 years at the school which was a wonderful place to work, with exceptional people and was very sorry when time was up
Margaret and I have lived in Beaumaris for 45 years, currently in Tramway Parade, near the beach. We have 2 children and 3 grandchildren, all boys 15,4 and 2. Our son attended Mentone Grammar School, I worked there and am pleased to see the eldest grandchild is going there.
The children attended Beaumaris North Primary School and from the Fathers Activities Club the core of Rotary Club of Beaumaris was formed. I am a charter member and past president of the club, 1988/89 also a Paul Harris fellow. In my year as president, Beaumaris Probus club was formed.
I have played tennis for many years and am a member of Black Rock Sports Club. On leaving MGS, after some locum work, I took up golf, found I enjoyed it and now of member of Woodlands Golf Club. I enjoy swimming in the bay and am debating whether to get kayak or stand up paddle board, my son is sure I will never master it and for my sins a lifelong Saints supporter
Margaret and I enjoy travel and hope to do a lot more when this crisis is over. We look forward to a long and happy association with the club
